22/1 for Villa to win FA Cup and finish in top 4 but just 16/1 for Spurs to do the same
Monday 8th March 2010 – A second-half resurgence against Reading saw Aston Villa through to the semi-final stage of the FA Cup and Boylesports have made it 22/1 for an FA Cup win / Champions League place double triumph for the West Midlands side. Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham were held at Fulham, but their odds for an equivalent double celebration are just 16/1.
Martin O’Neill’s team will meet Chelsea in the FA Cup semis and should Spurs make it through they face the easier prospect of Portsmouth. Boylesports are also offering odds on which teams will meet in the final, making Chelsea v Tottenham the most likely match-up at 15/8. Aston Villa and Spurs are 9/2 to meet in the final at Wembley.
“Villa looked fantastic in the second 45 minutes on Sunday, but O’Neill would have hoped to avoid Chelsea in the next round,” comments Boylesports Head of PR Leon Blanche. “Despite not yet qualifying for the semi-finals, you can see how much shorter Spurs’ are to win the cup and qualify for Europe’s top club competition – partly because they appear to be in a stronger position in the league, partly because they aren’t due to meet Chelsea until the Cup final.”
