WBX.COM TO CONTINUE SPONSORSHIP OF £1 MILLION WBX HURDLING TRIPLE CROWN AND WBX.COM FIGHTING FIFTH HURDLE
WBX.COM MEDIA RELEASE
For immediate release, Tuesday, 29th September, 2009
WBX.COM, World Bet Exchange, is pleased to announce the continuation of the £1 million WBX Hurdling Triple Crown for a fourth year. The WBX Hurdling Triple Crown offers the biggest bonus in National Hunt racing.
Last year’s WBX Hurdling Triple Crown saw what has been dubbed the most expensive fall in history, with Champion Hurdle and WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle winner Punjabi’s fall in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton costing connections £1 million.
The WBX Hurdling Triple Crown will once again take in the three Grade 1 2m hurdle races run in Britain each season: The WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle, The Christmas Hurdle at Kempton and The Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. Any horse that wins these three races in the same season will be eligible for the £1 million bonus.
The £1 million bonus for winning the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown sees £700,000 awarded to the owner, £150,000 to the trainer, £100,000 to the responsible stable lad or lass and £50,000 to the remainder of the stable.
The 2009 running of the WBX.COM “Fighting Fifth” Hurdle will carry total prize money of £100,000, making it the most valuable renewal of the race to date.
Online since 2006, WBX.COM has successfully established itself as one of the world’s leading bet exchanges.
Over £1,000,000,000 (£1 billion) has been wagered by World Bet Exchange Members since launch on a wide range of sporting events including horse racing, football, tennis, US Sports, golf, cricket and rugby plus a variety of specials markets.
Licensed and regulated in the UK by the Gambling Commission, World Bet Exchange has already made a significant contribution of over £1 million to British Horse Racing, responsible gambling initiatives and other statutory contributions.
Iain Turner, PR and Sponsorship Manager for WBX.COM said, “WBX remain committed to National Hunt racing and we are delighted to confirm that the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown will continue alongside sponsorship of the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle. WBX have so far sponsored over 600 races with the highlight of our sponsorship portfolio being the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle previously won by Straw Bear, Harchibald and Punjabi.
The past two renewals of the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle have attracted a future Champion Hurdle winner and the race has firmly been cemented as one of the top 2 mile hurdle races in the season.
The WBX Hurdling Triple Crown offers the biggest bonus in National Hunt racing. It was so nearly won last year by Punjabi and his fall at Kempton is undoubtedly the most expensive fall in history. Hopefully we will be crowning the first winner of the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown at Cheltenham in March!”
James Armstrong, Clerk of The Course at Newcastle Racecourse said, “Since World Bet Exchange have taken over the sponsorship of the race it has thrived and I am delighted to have them sponsoring again. There is a real buzz around the North East in the build up to the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth and after the disappointing abandonment last year I just hope we can stage it this season!”
