With misconceptions about that range from the supposition of low educational levels of “teachers” to the poor quality of received by homeschooled children, there is one undeniable fact. The number of homeschooled children is rising dramatically in the United States. Perhaps due to a myrid of social ills that cause pressure or the lack of focused attention on by an over taxed public school system, USA TODAY states that the Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics reports “1.5 million in 2007, up 74% from when [they] started keeping track in 1999 and up 36% since 2003.” “With this type of drastic increase in homeschooled children, the need for dependable educational resources for parents seeking non-traditional ways to bring to their children is essential to forming a dynamic growth environment,” comments Rachel Kokosenski, creator of 2 Educate.

In fact, with the rapid growth in the number of children educated at home using traditional and non-traditional means, homeschooling parents have to be more creative with ways to mix socialization skills with educational opportunities. With the known pitfalls for children of internet activities such as blogging and forum posting, many parents are hesitant to allow children access to online media for educational and connection purposes. “This is where Travel 2 Educate is really striving to bridge the gap for homeschooling parents. We want to provide a safe place for parents to share the educational experience of learning about new places and locations with their children,” explains Kokosenski about the goals of Travel 2 Educate. “From exotic customs to local learning, Travel 2 Educate gives parents the opportunity to connect in the forum, research distant locations, and read informational articles on how to make the most of travel for children.”

Meeting the need for resources that give homeschooling parents the chance to reach out to other homeschooling parents to share advice and provide insight into their travel experiences, Travel 2 Educate is pioneering ways to spark learning for children that builds a lifelong quest for knowledge as well an interest in the world.
