According to Extreme Adventures, the educational adventure tour operator in , the world indeed is not going to end in 2012. This fact, according to the company, is highlighted in their newly released article on the set to terminate on December 21st, 2012 http://mayanadventuretravel.com/2012.

The article was released as part of the Guatemalan tour operator’s “Resources and Learning Tools” section of their website for students, teachers, travelers to Guatemala, and aficionados of Mayan Culture. It was written to debunk the myth that the world will come to an end in the year 2012 according to the Mayan Calendar. This, according to the folks at Extreme Mayan Adventures is clearly not the case. But can we really believe them?

According to the Extreme Mayan Adventures website http://mayanadventuretravel.com/2012, the article was compiled from various, “anthropological studies, books about the Mayan Calendar, research about the Mayan number zero, and interviews with Mayan shamans.” The article also cites current research on the Mayan concept of Jaloj-K’exoj as put forth by the anthropologist Robert S. Carlsen and expert on Tzutujil Mayan culture Martin Prechtel.

So are we really safe from the end of life as we know it on the planet Earth? We ‘re safe according to Extreme Mayan Adventures, but you don’t have to take their word for it. Instead, you can look to the vast amount of anthropological research and books about Mayan culture. And if you still can’t believe it, ask your local Mayan shaman!
