The UK’s fastest growing online travel agent, sunshine.co.uk conducted research into where people would like to escape to after an upsetting event in their life, in light of the Cheryl Cole’s split and her subsequent dash to LA. Dubai, The Caribbean and Monaco topped the top 10 list.

The public split between Cheryl and Ashley Cole prompted the UK’s fastest growing online travel agent, www.sunshine.co.uk to ask 1,231 members of the British public where they would like to escape to mend a broken heart.

The results of the top 10 dream escape destinations are:

1. Dubai – 71%
2. Mustique – 68%
3. Monaco – 55%
4. South Africa – 52%
5. LA – 47%
6. Barbados – 41%
7. Malta – 36%
8. Tunisia – 29%
9. Gran Canaria – 24%
10. Ibiza – 17%

When looking at the reasons behind the popularity of certain places, sunshine.co.uk found that celebrities were the biggest influence. LA is where Cheryl Cole went after her split from Chelsea footballer, Ashley Cole. Of the 47% that answered LA, 39% said that it was because it was the chosen location of Cheryl Cole.

Dubai which came in first was also the choice of England Captain, John Terry’s wife, Toni Terry. When asked ‘why have you chosen this destination?’ 60% of those that chose Dubai said that it was their preference because it was where Toni Terry went to overcome her husband’s very public affair.

Katie Price spent large amounts of time in Ibiza after her divorce to pop star husband, Peter Andre. This influenced 10% of those polled, ‘partying with friends’ and ‘relaxing on the beach’ was the reason for those agreeing with Katie Price’s escape island.

1 in 5 of those polled said that the priority would be ‘getting out of the country’ with only 6% choosing a hideaway in the UK.
