Wedding season has been upon us for a while now and no doubt you’ve already had a few stressful decisions to make on what to wear. Here Models Direct offer their top tips for dressing for summer weddings.

• Research the weather. One of the biggest issues over here in the UK is the ever-changing British weather. You can wake up to glorious sunshine only to be hit with thunderstorms by the afternoon. Therefore it is advisable to try and get at least a vague idea on what the weather will be like.

• Dressing for the weather. Models Direct think it’s probably wise to cover yourself for all possibilities, especially if you’re travelling to the wedding by car and have somewhere to stash your provisions. When the weather is hot, Britain is prone to a close, muggy heat and if this is going to be the case then a cotton or linen dress will be much more comfortable than silky or synthetic materials. Even if it’s warm during the day it’s likely to get chilly in the evening, so take a shawl or scarf. If you think rain is a possibility then remember to take an umbrella. In fact you might want to take one even if you don’t think it’s going to rain, just in case.

• Don’t forget to apply sun cream if the sun is shining. You may spend quite some time waiting around outside while the photos are taken and we’re sure you’d rather be eating lobster at dinner than looking like one!

• If you’re unsure how formal the wedding and reception are, check with the bride or bridal party how they would like you to dress. After all, you wouldn’t want to turn up in your floaty summer dress only to find that it’s a white tie event!

• Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. You may be sitting down throughout the ceremony and dinner, but if the wedding is anything like the ones Models Direct enjoys then you will be dancing away to the cheesy disco music until the small hours.

• When choosing your outfit go for something dressy but classy. You don’t want to turn up looking too formal, but neither do you want to wear anything too revealing. Summer weddings are the perfect opportunity to wear bright, summery colours. Black is acceptable, just make sure it doesn’t look like you’re attending a funeral rather than a wedding, whatever you do!

• Don’t upstage the bride! Of course you want to look your best but remember this is the bride’s day, not yours. Avoid anything too glitzy, sparkly or long – and definitely don’t wear white!
