The Jules Verne Festival and the L.A. Historic Theatre Foundation (LAHTF) revive the Golden Age of Downtown Los Angeles glamour and entertainment with a series of star-studded screenings and special events in Broadway’s world-famous movie palaces. On Sat. June 13, TONY CURTIS and two of his most beloved movies – HOUDINI and SOME LIKE IT HOT (50th ANNIVERSARY) – will launch the series at the Million Dollar Theater!
World famous Movie Star TONY CURTIS is to be feted as the Jules Verne Festival and the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation present THE MAGIC OF TONY CURTIS. Mr. Curtis will be on hand for the day-long celebration.

THE MAGIC OF TONY CURTIS kicks off with a special matinee screening of Curtis’ 1953 biopic classic, HOUDINI. Before HOUDINI, live on the Million Dollar stage, Escape Artist Curtis Lovell II will attempt Houdini’s water torture escape in a tribute to Curtis’ portrayal of the legendary performer. ” Lovell, praised in the media as the “Modern-Day Houdini”, is a lifelong fan of Curtis and HOUDINI. Curtis Lovell II has been buried alive, locked in a box of water,
shackled and tossed into the Singapore River. He cut Paris Hilton in
half and challenged psychic John Edward to a magic duel. Lovell has
appeared on USA Network, A&E, E! Entertainment and he recently
appeared on the Masters of Illusions television program on MyNetwork-TV.
“Out of my many projects, this is one of the most exciting for me,”
Lovell stated, explaining that he grew up watching Tony Curtis
portraying Houdini. “As a child watching the movie Houdini, I wanted
to be Houdini. I wanted to be Tony Curtis. I wanted to grow up to be
a world-renowned magician.” Lovell explained. On June 13, 2009, Lovell will perform an escape similiar to one that Tony Curtis performed in the movie, The Chinese Water Torture Cell. Tony Curtis will be live, onstage to receive the Jules Verne Legendaire Award honoring his extraordinary career and the publication of his new biography, ‘American Prince: A Memoir’.

THE MAGIC OF TONY CURTIS is the fourth installment in the once-in-a-lifetime series of “JULES VERNE LEGENDAIRE AWARDS” events highlighted by Red Carpet Arrivals, Surprise Events, Glamorous Stars and much more! Blade Runner, The Birds, and 2001: A Space Odyssey are the first three JULES VERNE LEGENDAIRE AWARD winners.
