January 8, 2010 – In a review published today, Televisions.com combines detailed measurements with subjective evaluation of design and picture quality to derive an overall rating for the Grundig Vision 9 42-9870 T. The Grundig achieved a score of 6.6 out of 10 points. The review praises features such as the TV’s low power consumption, the built-in speakers’ powerful bass, and the unusual inclusion of a measurement microphone for automatic audio calibration. But all of this fails to obscure the Grundig’s poor home-cinema performance, the reviewers argue – low contrast, poor colour resolution, and imperfect 24p playback all appear on Televisions.com’s “Why We Grumbled” list. But the reviewer is careful to put the device’s performance into perspective: “In this Grundig we found an excellent everyday TV; it impressed with easy operation, great colours, low power-consumption, and rich bass.”

The review warns of poor de-interlacing of DVD film content, but lavishes praise on the TV’s menu, which, it says, makes operation highly intuitive. Praise also goes to the backlit remote control, as well as to the channel list’s automatic sorting and the “Help” button – Florien Friedrich, Televisions.com’s head tester and editor-in-chief, said: “One real highlight of the TV’s operation is the help function: Pressing the question-mark button on the remote brings up clearly presented explanations of all of the handset’s buttons. Now that’s what we call service!”

Televisions.com also offers the reader advice on how to set up the TV to get the best picture quality, and cites examples of poor performance in specific scenes – one such example is the TV’s poor blacks in “Kill Bill: Volume 1” at playing time 1:38:46. The advice culminates in a list of ideal settings, which Televisions.com provides for all TV and projector reviews. These aim to optimise the device’s picture quality in the home cinema for HD content.
