Pacific Child & Family Associates today announced they are offering a free community parent training workshop on autism spectrum disorders (ASD) on Saturday, March 20, 2010, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Wingate Hotel in El Paso, Texas. The workshop will be conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) from Pacific Child & Family Associates who has ten years of experience in the field of behavioral therapy for children with autism.

The introductory parent training workshop will focus on some of the difficulties in socialization, behavior, language and communication that affect those with ASD and how to help manage those difficulties.  Research has shown that parent training can provide an important ingredient in helping to obtain beneficial results for children on the spectrum. These positive outcomes can include reduction in parental stress, more opportunities for therapy for the child and an improvement of the parent-child relationship.

“This workshop is an ideal way for the parents of a child with autism to learn there are techniques available that can prove very helpful to the child – and that ends up being helpful to the family as a whole,” said Cara Entz, Agency Clinical Director for Pacific Child & Family Associates.  “We are also extending the invitation to educators who work with children with developmental disabilities.  The classroom is another environment which reaps huge benefits from the use of scientifically-validated behavioral therapy.”

Pacific Child & Family Associates has been working with children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities for over 20 years.  The El Paso office of Pacific Child & Family Associates, which is hosting the workshop, opened the beginning of 2009 to work with children and families in need in the area including TriWest/TriCare military families and, through the University of New Mexico, families in Las Cruces. In addition to the El Paso office, Pacific Child and Family Associates has nine offices throughout California and an office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
