“Organ donors are real heroes behind Transplantation,” say Prof. John Fabre
Transplant veteran Prof. R.V.S Yadav’s biography launched at the 3rd RVS Yadav Memorial Oration
New Delhi, February 6, 2012: Eminent British Prof. John Fabre today spoke at length about the “Future of Transplantation” and gave an insight about the technological advancement in medical sector at the 3rd Prof R.V.S Yadav Memorial Oration held at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.
Prof. John Fabre, Department of Hepatology and Transplantation, King’s College London School of Medicine, UK said, “Organ transplant is a science principally dependent on the support of organ donors; they are therefore the real faces behind the success of transplants. Promoting Organ Transplant Day across the globe, I believe such orations are instrumental in spreading proper awareness about organ donation and transplants.”
Every alternative year on February 4, the Raj Vir Singh Yadav Foundation organizes ‘Professor R.V.S Yadav Memorial Oration’ in a bid to pay tribute to Professor RVS Yadav.
Biography of Prof. R.V.S Yadav “Transplantation Legend – The Life and Times of India’s Finest Transplant Surgeon” was also launched, while, Ms. Jehanara Wasi, the co-author of the book, read the excerpts from the book.
Prof. John Fabre also added, “It’s an honour for me to be a part of this special occasion. Prof R.V.S Yadav was one of the pioneers in India of transplant surgery and is counted among one of the leading kidney transplant surgeons in the world. His contribution in medical sector has been remarkable. He always tried his best to spread awareness about surgical methods all across the globe and the different segments of Indian society. Today it makes me feel proud to see that the Raj Vir Singh Yadav Foundation is carrying forward the vision and foresight of the legendary leader in the field of medicine and surgery.”
Dr. (Mrs.) Krishna Yadav, Chairperson of Raj Vir Singh Yadav Foundation & Senior Consultant, Paediatric Surgery, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi; and Dr. Sandeep Guleria, Senior Consultant Surgeon, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi were felicitated during the occasion. The event was attended by the eminent transplant surgeons, nephrologists and other medical and non medical professionals and other distinguished persons.
Dr. Krishna Yadav, said, “It is a very special moment for all of us gathered here as the much awaited Prof R.V.S Yadav’s biography has been launched today. Raj Vir Singh Yadav Foundation since its inception has always intervened and encouraged medical education, research and awareness among the public.”
The biography has been published by Rupa Publications India. Senior personnel of Rupa Publications were present at the launch.
The doctors also shared that Indraprastha Apollo Hospital has conducted over 670 Liver and 1800 Kidney transplants since the start of the program over 13 years ago.

Federation said, “Raj Yadav had a long and supportive relationship with this Federation and he worked tirelessly to promote sport for transplant recipients and to bring a team from India to the World Transplant Games. He was in our opinion ‘one of the fathers’ of transplant surgery in India and was instrumental in forming the All India Transplant Games Federation. He will be remembered by us all for his dedication to the quality of life and his focus and attention to his patients went far beyond the surgical procedure.”
