The Holy Synod of the Œcumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Worldwide (ŒCOCW) joins the American faith community in urging New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to reconsider the enforcing the unfair policy banning clergy from attendance and participation at the ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
The publicized ban of clergy at this most faith focused American event is irrational given that when this historic tragedy occurred, the first response of most Americans was to immediately offer prayer and turn to their respective clergy representatives for understanding and support. Therefore, the policy banning clergy participation at this most momentous event subverts the long held American policy of religious freedom and public expression of faith which is the rock solid foundation of American constitutional belief.
The ŒCOCW calls on all religious and clergy in America to join it is urging Mayor Bloomberg to reconsider his plans to limit expression of one of America’s greatest treasures, Religious Freedom and Expression.
