Œcumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Challenges Apple Computer “App” Decision
The Holy Synod of the Œcumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Worldwide (ŒCOCW) challenges the decision of Apple Computer to remove the Manhattan Declaration iPhone/iPad application from it’s Tunes Store. This event occurred sometime during the Thanksgiving holiday seemingly without notification to the staff of the Manhattan Declaration.
The ŒCOCW bases its opposition on the unfair treatment that Apple exercised between the Manhattan Declaration’s iPhone “app” that was initially rated 4+, meaning it contained no objectionable material. However, in response to protest from pro same-sex marriage advocates, Apple summarily removed the Manhattan Declaration’s “app” without warning and has thus far refused to reinstate it. The ŒCOCW views this as unfair and preferential treatment that suppresses the Manhattan Declaration’s free speech rights in favor of similar rights of its opposition.
The ŒCOCW challenges Apple to reconsider this unfair treatment and requests all free speech advocates and religious freedom organizations and institutions to join the ŒCOCW in its challenge. As a Christian organization, the Manhattan Declaration has the same rights as pro same-sex advocates to express its beliefs and Christian conscious.
