ŒCOCW Praises Oklahoma State Legislature Veto of Pro-Abortion Governor
The Oklahoma State Senate vetoed pro-abortion legislation by Democratic Governor Brad Henry to pass an abortion statistics reporting law on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. The pro-abortion governor faced opposition when the State Senate joined the State House of Representatives in overturning his veto by a margin of 33 to 15. The new law requires abortionists to complete a 37 point questionnaire detailing information on abortion procedures and medical safety protocols, and to ask their clients for the reasons they are seeking an abortion. This procedure will allow the Oklahoma Department of Health to collect statistical data on the number of abortions performed, along with reasons for the decision to abort a child.
The Œcumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Worldwide applauds the moral courage demonstrated by the Oklahoma Legislature to protect the life of innocent children who are incapable of speaking or themselves. This courageous act is worthy of emulation by all U.S. state governments in an effort to make the stark magnitude of abortions performed each year more transparent and information available to the general public.
The Holy Synod of the Œcumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Worldwide prayerfully supports and congratulates the Oklahoma Legislature for exercising its moral and ethical fortitude and hopes that this will help reduce the unbridled application of life terminating medical procedures.
The Holy Synod of the Œcumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Worldwide also encourages its fellow Christian jurisdictions and faith expressions to join it in supporting the courage of this life protecting legislative body.
