Kickstarter.com, the crowdfunding site that has recently raised millions for creators of the “Pebble ePaper Watch” and “Double Fine Adventure”, has recently posted another stand-out idea: THE KING PONG PROJECT.
This project, by startup iOS Development Studio “App-Different.com”, is looking for funding to create community designed apps via crowdsourcing -allowing anyone to participate in app design. Yes, anyone.
The basic idea is to give the general public a voice in designing apps for Apple iOS devices like iPhone, iPad, and even Apple TV. App-Different members will be able to vote on various aspects of the app design and function, as well as compete for prizes and cash awards by submitting their own ideas, artwork, and other contributions to further the development.
The App-Different team already has the framework in place for their first app “KING PONG”. They’ve obtained a provisional patent on a method called “AirMotion™”, that they’ve created for using Apple TV as a game console, similar in action to a Nintendo Wii.
As part of the kickstarter promotion, readers can download the game (as is) for free in the Apple app stroe. The idea is to try out the game, start generating ideas to improve/expand on it, then go to the member forums to discuss, submit ideas, and vote on suggested improvements.
If that’s not enough, you can also sign up as a “contributor”, where you can literally have your designs and ideas added to the app itself.
If the concept appeals to you, you’ll find much more detail at Kickstarter.com. App-Different offers a wide variety of backer awards, ranging from a free completed app to “Gold Star” membership, to joining the “Inner-Circle”.
There is great potential here, as having a voice in app development will appeal to many iOS users who have insight and ideas, but until now have not had an outlet to express themselves.
