November 26, 2009 | Author: | Posted in Business

According to research, our impressions about people are formed in the first three seconds of meeting them. So, like it or not, people will probably judge you by what you’re wearing. In this article, Direct look at how to dress to make the best possible impression at .

Many of us find interviews really nerve-wracking and this can be made worse if you’re uncomfortable in what you’re wearing. It’s important to appear confident, serious and enthusiastic about the role you’re applying for. It can be difficult to know what to wear at interviews, especially if the workplace is relaxed about what the employees wear. Just remember it’s far better to be too smart than too casual.

If you know that employees are required to wear smart attire, go for a suit in a dark, sober colour such as black, navy or grey. For interviews at more laid-back workplaces you can put a bit more of your personality into the outfit by wearing accessories such as a necklace, a scarf or a bag. Just make sure they’re not too extravagant!

Ensure that your clothing is clean and ironed and that your shoes are smart and polished. Women should wear closed-toe shoes that aren’t too high. Make sure your hair is tidy and out of your face, keep make-up simple and restrained and make sure your nails are clean without bright nail varnish. Finally, avoid wearing overpowering perfume.

Arrange what you’re wearing the night before an interview (especially if it’s in the morning) so you don’t have to rush on the day, risking turning up late to the interview and/or not looking your best. Greet the interviewer with a warm smile and a firm and friendly handshake to get your interview off to the best start.
