Many teenage girls dream of becoming the next top fashion model and modelling agency Models Direct can help to make their dreams come true. While the commercial modelling agency doesn’t deal with the high end of fashion, it does provide hundreds of models for television, catalogue, advertising and fashion shows. Here Models Direct offer some top tips for teenage girls who want to make it as models.

Body type. The catwalks are full of stick-thin models, but you really don’t have to be that skinny to become a model! In fact, Models Direct clients are often looking for models who are a more realistic and healthy size.

Diet and fitness. Of course you should eat healthily, but you shouldn’t starve yourself. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water to keep your skin clear, fresh and hydrated. Take regular exercise to stay toned, and just as importantly, healthy!

Portfolio photos. When applying to an agency you will be asked to provide some photos of yourself. You may be told that you need to spend lots of money on having a portfolio put together, but this simply isn’t true. Modelling agencies just need some photos that demonstrate that you are photogenic. Get a couple of face-on and full length photos that show you’re relaxed and comfortable in front of a camera. There are loads more modelling tips available on the Models Direct website.

Casting tips. Castings and go-sees can be an important part of a model’s career. The clients will see lots of models hoping to get the same role so it’s important to make a good, and memorable, impression. They will want to see a model who is a ‘blank canvas’, so go for natural make up and don’t try to make yourself look older. Be confident and professional when meeting clients, but let your personality shine through too.

Stay in school. Modelling can be a fantastic hobby and a great way to earn some money, but don’t let it take over your life. Keep working hard at school – and don’t neglect your friends either!

Be careful. You will undoubtedly have heard about the modelling scams that are out there so ensure you choose a reputable agency. Check that they have a permanent office location and visit them so you know who will be representing you. When meeting an agent, always take someone along with you.
