Lots of people seem to think that the only attributes you need to become a model are stunning looks and a skinny body. But these aren’t the only things that are important and it’s vital that models have a good attitude towards their work. Models Direct explains more about the ideal personality traits of a model.

Patience and perseverance. Modelling is a very competitive industry and you’ll have to learn to be patient when trying to find work. Have faith that reputable agencies are working hard to find assignments for you. You’ll also need saying power to get through the day as a working model: modelling assignments often mean a long day and some hard work, but are undoubtedly worth it in the end.

Self-discipline. When working as a model you need to maintain a fresh face and healthy lifestyle, whether you’re a size 6 or a size 16. Take regular exercise, eat healthily and avoid excessive smoking and drinking that will age the skin. It’s obviously not the best idea to follow the lifestyles of some of the top models out there!

Don’t take it personally. Models need to be able to follow the instructions of whoever’s directing the assignment. Don’t mistake constructive feedback for criticism. Instead listen and take the chance to learn direct from an expert!

Confidence is key. You might be beautiful or handsome, but there is a lot more to modelling than being good-looking. Depending on which direction you want to take your modelling career in, you could be in front of a camera, walking a runway or talking to people, and it is important that you are relaxed and confident in these situations.

Lots of our models at Models Direct report that they’re nervous before assignments, especially if it’s their first job, but once they relax they have a fantastic time. Remember, if you’ve been selected for a job you obviously have the look the client has been searching for – so just relax and enjoy it!
