Michael Palin shares his memories of Sheffield, Elvis Presley… and reveals why he has such thick thighs and why stammering is important to him
“I remember…my father’s stammer and how difficult it was when I brought friends home who didn’t know he stammered. I felt embarrassed for him and embarrassed for myself. We never talked about it, which must just have added to the tension. As a result of playing a stammerer in A Fish Called Wanda I’ve learned a lot about it and given my name to a centre in London that treats stammering in young children.”
