Brandon Medical proudly represented Yorkshire at the National Chambers awards 2009, held at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. Brandon Medical were awarded £50,000 after receiving the ‘Outstanding Business Achievement award’. The second award for ‘Technology through Innovation’ recognised Brandon’s innovative HD-LED Medical Lighting and Symposia Medical Audio-Visual Systems. The judges picked Brandon Medical because of their dedication to innovation and strong growth over the last 18months.

John Dunsmure, Managing Director of the Chamber of Commerce said:
“Brandon is a shining example of what a good British business can do in a global market. The Company have used its intelligence and experience to develop a set of unique products that is helping the medical profession improve the way it shares vital information. That really could save lives.”

The award ceremony was hosted by BBC’s news reporter Fiona Bruce and TV Presenter Mark Durden Smith. A total of 10 award categories were covered over the evening, celebrating the success of businesses across the UK. The award ceremony is testimony to the UK’s growth, despite the economic difficulties.

Brandon Medical are a small family owned company based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The company has only 30 employees spread across an office and manufacturing site. Innovation lies at the heart of Brandon Medical and this is the main reason for their success over the years.

Brandon Medical are the UK’s leading medical lighting manufacturer. The last 18 months have seen the development of HD-LED. This LED light source has been made specifically for medical lighting to give surgeons the best possible lighting during surgery.
HD-LED also satisfies both economic and environmental issues. The light source is cheap to produce and is extremely energy efficient by potentially reducing energy consumption by half. Brandon’s medical lighting uses LEDs which are easy to dispose of and are recyclable. The material’s used within the light means that they are virtually inert.

The Innovation for Technology award was given to Brandon’ Symposia. Symposia medical audio-visual system is designed for live surgery and surgical training purposes. The system has been installed throughout the UK. Sir Liam Donaldson, Chief Medical Officer commented on the system ‘I am pleased to see surgical training enhanced by smart use of modern technology.’
