LAUSD’s Local District 3 Keeps Arts Alive

Los Angeles, CA–On April 28, 2009, Marina Del Rey MS will host Local District 3’s first annual Arts Festival. Located on the west side of LAUSD, Local District 3 unites in celebrating of the talents and achievements of all students in the Arts. “All the World is a Stage” reigns the theme of the festival as the entire campus is transforming into a stage, showcasing the visual and performing arts.

On Tuesday, at 5:30 the stage performances will begin. There will be 3 stages and corridors brimming with displays of visual arts, media arts and live performing arts from students Pre-K through 12th grade. A drumline will be touring the campus and musicians will be sprinkled throughout the campus for visitors’ enjoyment. A visit to the live wax museum displaying historical figures is encouraged as well as the ‘artist’s wall’ where everyone is an artist.

Despite the stress of the economy and the devastating debt of the district, Lindsey Farris, Marina Del Rey MS dance teacher and Danielle Evers, Local District 3 Arts Community Adviser brought a creative vision into a reality. Ambitiously planning a district wide festival on a $0 budget takes creative problem solving, positive energy, and the support of amazing teachers and principals who put students first. “The more opportunities that educators can create for children to succeed and express themselves creatively, empowers students to build self-esteem and find value in education,” stated Danielle Evers, LD 3 Arts Community Adviser. “This is why we are excited to celebrate arts education with families and friends of the community.”

The Local District 3 Arts Festival is a free event for the whole family and community. For more information, contact Danielle Evers at 310-253-7818. View the LD 3 Arts website at http://www.katurahdesigns.com/Welcome_2.html.
