Slated to Drop June 7 on iTunes
(New York)…..Following his critically acclaimed debut, MASTERPIECE, ASCAP Award winner and Dove Award nominated songwriter, J. Phoenix, heats up the dance floor with Grammy-nominated producer, Dean Coleman, on the high-energy release “Just Tell Me, Part II.” Adding to the track, slated for release June 7, 2010 on iTunes, is the expertise of producer/engineer David Darlington whose most recent credits include audio mixes for Sting’s “If On A Winter’s Night” album.
“This is a new genre for me,” says J. Phoenix, the writer of Joe’s “All That I Am,” Tupac’s “Thugz Mansion” and Anointed’s “Adore.” “While I write and perform in many genres, I never imagined I’d be writing and performing on a dance record; but,
when I heard Dean’s track, and learned David was going to be in the building, I had to get on it, and I’m more than happy with the outcome” he says.
J. Phoenix’s four-octave range, known for big ballads and pop hits, has been featured on songs by Ricky Martin, Patti LaBelle, Jessica Simpson and Randy Brecker. On “Just Tell Me, Part II” he belts out his lyrics reminiscent of house classics like Ralphie Rosario’s “You Used To Hold Me”, Jocelyn Brown’s “Somebody Else’s Guy,” Colonel Abrams’ “I’m Not Gonna Let”, Ricky Dillard’s “Let the Music Use You” and The Peech Boy “Don’t Make Me Wait;” disco hits like Luther Vandross on Change’s “The Glow Of Love,” and modern classics like Everything But The Girl’s “Missing.” Together, Coleman and J. Phoenix have taken dance music to a new level, blending old school and new school to create a 21st century phenomenon for the dance floor.
“Working with J. Phoenix on “Just Tell Me Part II” was like working with a voice you’ve known for years. He was a real pro in the studio and the hook made the song really pop. I started out to make a hit and realized we had made a classic,” says Coleman.
“Just Tell Me, Part II” is currently available on Beatport.com, the recognized leader in electronic dance music downloads for DJs and club music enthusiasts.
About J. Phoenix
J. Phoenix has been compared to Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Al Green, Seal, Sam Cook, and Eric Benet. Great compliments, but his sound is all his own. He is a singer and songwriter who does not snugly fit into a particular category. The genre-defying scope of his music, recorded by others, featured in films and on his own album, is impossible to pigeonhole. In addition to widely recognized R&B and hip hop and artists, J. Phoenix songs have been recorded by legends Nancy Wilson, George Benson and Earth Wind & Fire, Michelle Wright, one of Canada’s premiere pop artists and British pop star Gary Barlow.
J. Phoenix has been commended by critics for his lyrical expertise and awarded by ASCAP for the same. Producers and vocalists are astounded by what he is able to do with his voice, the instrument he began using at the age of seven. He has never entered a vocal contest he didn’t win, including the late Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star, where he competed with future American Idol runner-up Katherine McPhee.
In addition to the United States, J. Phoenix has performed in Canada, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. This fall he will perform in South America and on the Mexican Riviera. His highly anticipated sophomore album is slated for release in early 2011.
About Dean Coleman
Producer, DJ and composer, Dean Coleman’s flare for cutting-edge effects, his appetite for technological knowledge, and a little bit of magic, have allotted him the ability to forecast trends and push boundaries in the music industry. In 2009 Coleman was nominated for the prestigious Grammy for “I Want You” (Dean Coleman Ft. DCLA)
Know as a triple threat in the music industry, Dean has kept people on their feet for over 12 years in global hot spots including Brazil, Russia, Dubai, New York, Ibiza, Paris, Lebanon, Romania, Russia, Cypress, Portugal, Washington, DC, Chicago, New York, and Montreal. He has built a reputation for himself as a producer and composer whose trademark sounds have become sought by famed musicians such as Justin Timberlake (“Sexy Back” and “My Love”), Chris Cornell (“Scream”), Annie Lennox and Madonna (“Sing, Sing, Sing”), Beyonce (“Why Don’t You Love Me”), Passion Pit (“The Reeling”) Maxwell (“Bad Habits”) and MIA (“Jimmy”).
Within three years Coleman had been on four Yoshitoshi releases and scored multiple internationally-recognized films. In late 2007, Dean’s remix of Alcatraz’s “Give Me Luv” topped Beatport’s U.S. sales chart and fueled the launch for his imprint label MUSICIZ.
About David Darlington
Born in Harlem, New York, Darlington, like J. Phoenix he has straddled the fence between genres. A Grammy Award-winning Engineer, producer, musician and songwriter, with a career spanning more than three decades, he co-wrote Phyllis Hyman’s #1 hit “Don’t Wanna Change the World, received critical acclaim for his composition work for the hit HBO series “Oz” for which he scored for the entirety of it’s six-season run. He has won a Grammy for mixing jazz legend Wayne Shorter’s “Alegra” album and platinum plaques for CC Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat,” Technotronic’s “Pump Up The Jam, and Vanessa William’s “Comfort Zone.”
In 2009 Darlington engineered audio mixes for Sting’s “If On A Winter’s Night” album.
Darlington believes that genre is irrelevant, and says, “good music is good music, whether it’s hip-hop, jazz, classical or rock.”
