Ida Weakens to Tropical Storm Strength – Heavy Rains the Main Threat Advises the Swinden Group

Gulf of Mexico – U.S.: Tropical Storm Ida weakens as it sprints across the Gulf of Mexico towards the Gulf Coast States with an estimated landfall tonight. Heavy rains should begin t move onshore this morning. Hurricane Watches and Warnings have been posted for the Gulf Coast o the U.S. Preparations t protect life and property should b rushed t completion.
A 900 a CST, 1500 UTC, the center o Tropical Storm Ida was located about 185 miles south-southeast o the mouth o the Mississippi River and about 285 miles south-southwest o Pensacola Florida.
