FOOD ALLERGY-FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN EVENT HELD IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS ACROSS ARIZONA
Arizona Food Allergy Alliance (AFAA) to provide a family friendly event geared toward the food allergy community.
OCTOBER 3, 2011. PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Lisa Horne today announced Halloween Trunk-or-Treat events in three locations statewide including Phoenix, Tucson, and Pinetop-Lakeside. These support group parties will provide an opportunity for the food allergy community to come together and celebrate Halloween in a reduced risk environment. 15 million Americans have food allergies. 6 million of which are children. For many of them it is life-threatening. AFAA President and Founder, Lisa Horne, says, “Fun is not spelled c-a-n-d-y, and we are proving that to be true with our 1st Annual Trunk-or-Treat”.
Former CEO of the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, Julia Brasher, said, “While Halloween has grown into a day that most children look forward to all year, it can be quite scary for those with food allergies, and not because of ghosts and goblins”. This year’s Trunk-or-Treat serves as a multi-beneficial event; in that AFAA also Chair’s the FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in both Tempe and Tucson. Registration and fundraising materials will be available at all locations. Tempe’s Walk takes place Saturday December 3 at Tempe Arts Park, and Tucson’s Walk takes place Saturday March 10, 2012 at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park.
For those not familiar with a Trunk-or-Treat, here’s how AFAA’s Trunk-or-Treat works:
- Show up – Dressing up is optional, but always fun
- Bring whatever you’d like to decorate your trunk, and decorate on-site when you show up
- Bring NON-FOOD treats to hand out such as pencils, stickers, spinning tops, etc.
- Have fun playing one of several games.
