Five Academy Award nominations for BBC Films
Carey Mulligan‘s breakout performance in Lone Scherfig‘s An Education has been recognised by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today with an additional nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role, to complement her existing BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations.
This joins the film’s other two nominations for Best Picture (Finola Dwyer, Amanda Posey, Producers) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Nick Hornby).
Armando Iannucci‘s hit political satire In The Loop has received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay (Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche), and Bright Star‘s Janet Patterson was nominated for Costume Design.
BBC Films has enjoyed a total of five Academy Award nominations this year.
In addition, BBC One’s commission of the Wallace and Gromit short, A Matter Of Loaf And Death, was also the recipient of a nomination today in the Short Film (Animated) category.
Jana Bennett, Director of BBC Vision, said: “It is fantastic to see the BBC’s support and investment in British film has helped to bring such an impressive range of creative work to the attention of the world’s most famous film academy.”
Christine Langan, Creative Director, BBC Films, said: “BBC Films is delighted to be recognised by the Academy and thrilled to have worked with such great British talent as Armando Iannucci, Nick Hornby and Carey Mulligan.
“This is a mark of the wonderfully fresh talent working in film in the UK right now.”
