Ecumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Participates in National Clergy Conference

The Ecumenical Canoncial Orthodox Church through the presence of Protosyncellus, +Catholicos Scholarios-Gennadius III, OSB, participated in the National Clergy Conference on affordable health care on Friday, June 5, 2009. One Hundred and Seventeen religious leaders attended this telephone conference from approximately 21 states and diverse religious expressions. The primary purpose of the conference addressed the collective concern regarding the inequitable availability of adequate health care for all American citizens. This conference was organized by the PICO National Network and attended by Chairman, Senate Finance Max Baucus of Montana who is introducing Congressional legislation in support of affordable health care. Senator Baucus expressed his appreciation to the leaders at this conference and requested that they and their respective constituencies actively recruit additional congressional support. Senator Baucus quoted Amos 3:3 (Can two walk together, except they be agreed?) in support of the shared moral obligation of ensuring equitable health care, and the responsibility of both religious bodies, such as the ECOC helping to make health care a spiritual as well as a pragmatic practice. Catholicos Scholarios-Gennadius will continue representing the ECOC and supporting the National PICO Network in this most important Christian and moral effort.
