Total inflow of water in Cyprus’ dams in the past three days has reached 5.056 million cubic meters, according to data of the Department of Water Development. In statements to CNA, Director of the Department of Water Development Kyriakos Kyrou said that the quantity of water that has flowed to the dams is satisfactory.

“The total quantity of water stored in all the dams is about 149 million cubic meters. At present 51.2% of the dams’ capacity has been covered,“ he added, noting that this percentage is higher than the figures during corresponding period last year. The total water quantity stored reaches 148.827 million cubic meters compared to 140.014 in the corresponding period last year, while water storage now stands at 51.2% compared to 48.1% in the corresponding period last year.

“We are now at 51.2% as far as water storage is concerned, last year it was 48.1%. We are hopeful that due to the increased inflow we will do much better than last year. The rainfall in the past few days is a good sign. We are optimistic that the flow will continue and more water will be stored in our dams,“ he stressed.

Kyrou noted that some dams began to overflow, like the Klerou-Malountas-Akaki and the Xyliatou dams in Nicosia district and the Argaka and Pomos dams, in the Pafos district.

The total inflow of water in dams since October 1, last year reached 32.815 million cubic meters.CNA
