The critically acclaimed Canada-France co-production feature film “Le Bonheur de Pierre” (A Happy Man) is pleased to announce it will be making its New York City debut at the prestigious New York Film & Video Festival. A Happy Man, which has already garnered praise from movie critics around the world, is a new comedy staring Pierre Richard , the comedy icon of French Cinema and award winning Quebec actor Rémy Girard . Rémy Girard is best known internationally for his role in the Oscar winning film “Les Invasions Barbares” (The Barbarian Invasions) , for which he received a Genie award for best actor. Mr Pierre Richard will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the New York Film and Video
The has already earned some prestigious nominations including Best Picture in the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (NYIIFVF), Best Original Screenplay for Guy Bonnier and Best Director for Robert Menard (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0617609/). French comedy Icon Pierre Richard will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the screening. for his work in over 70 films. He is certainly one of France’s supreme farceurs in the classic tradition. His award has co-incided with his 75th birthday. A Happy Man will be having its New York premiere on Saturday October 24th 6.10pm at the Village East Cinema 189 2nd avenue and 12thst as part of NYIIFVF www.nyfilmvideo.com. A Happy Man will then continue on the festival circuit at the 33rd São Paulo International Film Festival and “The Monte Carlo Comedy Festival” in late November.

A Happy Man offers refreshing humor on the surface and a touching message about happiness and unity on other levels. Written by Guy Bonnier and produced for I Studio Cinema Television www.ictv.ca, by Guy Bonnier and Claude Bonin, “Le Bonheur de Pierre” is a touching politically incorrect comedy and triumph of happiness over human mediocrity. At 65 Pierre Martin (played by Pierre Richard) a quantum physicist inherits an inn in Canada from his aunt. He leaves Paris with his daughter Catherine (Sylvie Testud) and ends up in the dead of winter in Sainte-Simone-du-Nord, a typical tiny village in Saguenay, a remote region of Quebec. Away from Parisian life, Pierre sees an opportunity to pass on the quality he values most: happiness. But the mayor of Sainte Simone played by Remy Girard doesn’t want a second generation of “frenchies”.
The film takes place in Paris and then in the far northern region of Quebec and boosts stunning cinematography. A Happy Man had an extremely successful private screening at the Cannes Film Festival where it received a standing ovation and had rave reviews from audience members. Already the Critics are talking about A Happy Man.
