Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust has announced their adoption of BrowseAloud, the leading website speech-enabling solution from Texthelp Systems Ltd.

Website visitors who may have literacy difficulties, dyslexia, mild visual impairments, or for those with English as a second language will now be able to access the online services with greater ease and confidence.

BrowseAloud is a text-to-speech solution that reads all accessible website content aloud in a high quality human sounding voice which can be altered to suit the individual’s specific needs. As the online content is read aloud, words are highlighted; a useful tool which aids literacy and comprehension.

Head of communications for the Trust, Ian Andrew, explained:

“We are keen to improve the accessibility of all areas of our website. For those who find reading text online difficult we have chosen to provide BrowseAloud. The service was chosen as it is free to our site’s visitors. Visitors who wish to use the service simply click the logo and download BrowseAloud free of charge.”

BrowseAloud has undergone some exciting new changes since the last release; users can now access all the BrowseAloud features with a floating toolbar which includes a talking dictionary, the ability to convert online text to MP3 and a screen masking facility which benefits those with certain visual impairments and learning difficulties.

Other new features include a Translation tool; allowing for single word translations in English, French, Spanish, German or Italian.
