Custom software application by Intertech for Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lauded for increasing efficiency and reducing costs of filing criminal complaints.
St. Paul, MN – July 01, 2011 — eCharging, a custom application designed by Minnesota-based Intertech for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), has been awarded an IACP/iXP Excellence in Technology Award. The international award will be presented to the BCA during the 2011 Law Enforcement Information Management conference to be held June 13-15 in San Diego.
Expected to save Carver County more than $517,000 during the first five years of its use, eCharging is a web-based system that allows officials to electronically sign off on complaints, set up a profile showing their credentials and track the complaints in the approval process. The Minnesota Supreme Court temporarily
approved acceptance of electronic signatures as a way to approve complaints from county attorneys and judicial offices. The temporary implementation ended in July 2010 when the Minnesota Supreme Court approved its adoption by any county in the state.
Today, 20 counties in Minnesota use eCharging for criminal complaints, while other Minnesota counties also use the software for citations, incident referrals and DWI administration forms. Intertech further honed the system based on BCA requirements; it now only requires notary publics to enter their notary identifier and expiration date into the system, speeding the entire criminal complaint charging process and allowing law enforcement officers to focus on other priorities. Intertech plans to work with other states to develop similar applications.
eCharging also will be highlighted at the 2011 Traffic Records Forum – the largest conference of its kind in the world — in Charlotte, NC this summer. The State of Minnesota will be showcasing eCharging on a national stage and it will be recognized for leading the nation in criminal justice application integration.
