AESG Inc. to Assist At Unmanned Vehicle Competition
AESG announces it’s participation as volunteers at the 2nd International Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) Competition, June 18-21 at the Founder’s Inn and Spa in Virginia Beach. This event is sponsored by the U.S. Office of Naval Research and the Washington, DC-based Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Foundation. Teams of college students will compete for up to $20,000 in prize money using robotic boats which they have designed
and built.
The contest is aimed at stimulating and fostering interest in this innovative technology and encouraging careers in the field. The organizers challenged the students to design, fabricate and demonstrate a system capable of completing a specific and independent naval operation.
The boats will be put through their paces during a simulation. These are not remote controlled boats. Once the boat leaves the dock it must make all maneuvers without any human intervention.
A lake at the resort will be used as a simulated “shipwreck” of a ferry boat with passengers requiring rescue. The challenge requires the teams to rescue the passengers by plotting a course through a series of treacherous reefs. The student-built boats then have to navigate around a dock to the sinking ferry. The rescue boat will also have to defend against pirates to escape.
“I love working with robotics and improvements in technology”, AESG CEO Frank Vanella says. “These participants from all over the U.S. and Canada obviously agree. They’ve seen the fun and the difficulties of designing robotic boats and hopefully are interested in pursuing careers in the industry. Helping out in any way is a pleasure”
AESG Inc. has a stake in the Hampton Roads region’s growing technology reputation and will continue to be involved in events which further innovation and excellence.
AESG Inc. repairs and refurbishes a variety of robotic equipment and systems and is a smart and economical alternative to equipment replacement. For specifics on the company’s complete line of services, please visit http://www.aes-g.com
