It seems like ’s favourite young role model, , can do no wrong! As well as the huge success of the Harry Potter films, the actress has gone on to model for Burberry, attend an Ivy-League university and now she has taken her first step into becoming a .

It was recently revealed that Emma spent her gap year designing for ethical clothing company People Tree and hopes to direct young people to more environmentally friendly and humanitarian .

Ethical and environmentally friendly clothes are becoming more popular, as more people become aware of the state of the environment, the working conditions of people making clothes and the benefits of recycling. More and more designers are beginning to embrace fair trade, directing changes in the fashion industry, including in high fashion circles.

Emma’s fashion profile has soared after modelling for the latest Burberry campaign, and modelling and fashion are things she’s obviously passionate about. Add this to her interest in ethical issues and an ethical clothing line is created! She approached People Tree directly and of course they were happy to take her on for the five month design process.

At a time when cheap clothing is readily available, it’s great that Emma is trying to make more young people aware of the implications of the ‘disposable clothing’ attitude. “I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren’t many options out there,” enthuses Watson. “It has been the most incredible gap year project.”

Emma’s men and women’s clothing and accessory lines will be available from February 2010. The clothing will be made from organic and fair-trade certified cotton and the accessories will all be created from recycled products – there’s even a necklace made from sweet wrappers! The fresh designs will give young people a green alternative to the dubiously cheap options on the high street. Models Direct can’t wait to see what Emma Watson decides to do next!
