1 in 3 Brits live next door to a nosy neighbour
A new study by one of Scotland’s leading double glazing installers has revealed that 1 in 10 Brits have seen their neighbour getting intimate through open curtains, 54% listen to their neighbours argue and a further 34% admit to being a ‘nosy neighbour’.
One of Scotland’s leading double glazing, conservatory and door installers commissioned a survey of 1,261 people across the UK in an attempt to discover how nosey Brits confess to being, and what things they have seen when peering through open curtains.
The poll by http://www.centralscotlandjoinery.co.uk asked the respondents if they ever glance into their neighbour’s windows, how often they leave their curtains open and what things they have witnessed whilst being a neighbour.
According to the results by http://www.centralscotlandjoinery.co.uk, more than 1 in 10, 11%, have seen their neighbours getting intimate through their open curtains.
The majority of those polled, 54%, have listened to their neighbours argue, 8% of whom admit to listening intently to hear how the fight develops.
When asked by http://www.centralscotlandjoinery.co.uk, ‘do you think you are a nosy neighbour?’ more than 1 in 3, 34%, admit that they are. A further 61% believe that they live next door to a nosy neighbour.
Although 61% believe their neighbours are nosy, 41% confess to leaving their curtains open at least three times a week, 1 in 5 leave their curtains open when they out in the evening and 6% say they ‘never’ close their curtains.
The study by http://www.centralscotlandjoinery.co.uk found almost two thirds of the respondents, 64%, peer into windows with the curtains open whilst walking past the house.
Of those asked, just 44% claim to ‘like’ their neighbours. In contrast, 29% ‘hate’ the people they live next too, 58% of which say it is because they are ‘too noisy’.
Jamie Haston, Managing Director of http://www.centralscotlandjoinery.co.uk has said,
“I can’t say that I was surprised to read that 1 in 3 of us are nosy neighbours. It is so easy to have a sneaky peak through an open curtain when walking on the street, especially if it is dark outside and the house has the lights on. It just our great sense of curiosity.”
He continues,
“Although I think 9 times out of 10 it is just innocent curiosity when we have a peer into open curtains, I still encourage people to close their curtains at night time when they are home or not. Leaving the curtains open can be showcasing all of your belongings to potential thieves, plus, you don’t want your entire street knowing your business.”
