“Blade slips, and cuts Mayor in Half”
Headlines at Ormond Beach PAC

At 25 you might imagine your life stuck behind a desk, or just graduating from college with a degree if you had planned to become a doctor. You might see yourself interning at a law firm with aspirations to become lawyer, or as a feeder fish at the bottom of an entry-level position of a fortune 500 company, trying to work your way up the political ladder of Corporate America.

Did you ever imagine you would have completed two world tours, with sold out performances in over 20 countries, rubbed elbows with celebrities, have multiple television appearances around the world under your belt, and have performed for royalty?

If I told you that was my dream, you’d think I had quite the vivid imagination; but for Illusionist David DaVinci, that’s no imagination, it’s a reality that he lives out daily.

Born as Dave in Spokane, Washington in 1983, this 25 year old has already left a sizeable dent in the industry. His beginnings were quite humble as he started out performing close up tricks at Red Robin when he was not yet old enough to drive.
By 17 he was performing up to 5 shows a day at Silverwood Theme Park, and was beginning to get international recognition as he was already winning competitions against magicians twice his age from all over the world. At 18 he had appeared on television in front over 200 million viewers in China, and toured Canada at 19, raising over $2 Million for charities.

Shortly after his 20th birthday, Dave hit the road hard, or should I say the seas. He headlined on luxury cruise ships all over the world, including Disney Cruise Lines, Holland America, NCL and Princess Cruise Lines. Three years later, with literally millions of miles under his belt, he picked up and moved over seas where he headlined in his own show for over 13 months.

“It was educational, and exhausting,” DaVinci comments. “I don’t remember sleeping much while I was there. I’d wake up at 8:00 AM and go freedive or scuba dive for most the day, then have shows at 7:00 and 9:00PM. After the shows I’d often stay until 1 or 2AM working on new material or training parrots. Then I’d head home and do it again the next day.”

It must have paid off for DaVinci, as he set a world record on April 21, 2007 in a freediving card trick in Saipan, where he dove down 63’ without a scuba tank and shot a selected card with a spear gun.

“I use the footage from that day in my shows now, where it’s actually an interactive trick with the audience. The idea is to make them feel like they were there with me, and in return I hope it makes them feel like they know me that much better by the end of the show.”

During his 13 month run in Saipan, DaVinci worked closely with two Bengal tigers, and even closer with his parrots. This caught the attention of Illusionist David , who quickly hired him to train two macaws and four toucans as a feature on his private islands in the Bahamas.

DaVinci is currently wrapping up his 2009 North American Tour, and is making appearances locally at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on September 5th and 6th, before he heads out on his world tour in 2010-2011.
This year’s show is titled “Enigma” and is packed full of punches and amazing illusions.

“The mayor has even agreed to let me cut him in half this year, at both shows! Let’s just hope there are no mishaps,” DaVinci comments with a smirk.
Tickets are available at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center Box Office for both shows. Call 386-676-3375 for tickets. More information is available at www.David-DaVinci.com
